How I Turned an L Into $20K at Cannes
The Cannes Lions story, the email I sent, and what happened next.
Hey Contentpreneurs,
We made it! Content to Commas just hit the 90-day mark. In corporate talk, the onboarding’s over, the training wheels are off, and we’re officially in stride.
Over 2,000 of you invite me into your inbox each week, and I’m glad you did. Whether you stumbled across a threads post, got a link from a friend, or found this on a random LinkedIn scroll.
This community is growing fast, and we’re just getting started.
In this issue, we’ve got something for every kind of content builder:
A gem for the full-stack marketers (like yours truly)
The lesson on how I finessed my way into Cannes Lions after a major L
The Ultimate Toolkit for Creatorpreneurs in 2025
Let’s get to work. 👇
Quick favor: I’ve been getting a flood of DMs and email replies with amazing stories and feedback, but no clean way to keep track of them all. If this newsletter has helped you in any way, I’d love to hear from you. I promise, it only takes a minute.
Do less switching. Get more marketing done.
Full-stack marketers are expected to master everything — from SEO to paid media to reporting — often solo. It’s not a talent problem. It’s a systems problem.
Semrush analyzed 956 profiles, surveyed 400 FSMs, and tracked over 700K+ social mentions to understand what’s breaking workflows and holding marketers back.
The insight? The more roles you take on, the more essential clear priorities, connected tools, and smarter workflows become. The data speaks for itself — and it’s time we listened.
Before I became a content creator and entrepreneur, I was a social media marketer. Even now, as a content director, I’m constantly juggling a lot. And honestly, the better you are at marketing, the better you are at creating.
Heads up: I’m a contributor to this report, and I share a ton of insights—everything from social strategy to digital marketing. No matter your role or how you identify, there’s value in here. I teamed up with other top experts to break down how to thrive in this AI-powered world.
Check out the full report—you’ll get something out of it.
🇫🇷 Headed to Cannes Lions (After Catching an “L”)
Let me be straight with you—this year, I was determined to get to Cannes Lions. I applied for all the programs and grants that cover your flight, stay, and badge. You know, the whole 9. But so did about 1,000 other people… and it just didn’t hit for me this time.
With three weeks left and zero plans, I said, “nah—we’re still going.”
Here’s what I did:
Spent 100,000 airline miles I didn’t want to spend.
Dropped $1,300 on an Airbnb.
Reached out to brands I’ve worked with or connected with before and let them know: “I’d be at Cannes, creating content, and open to collabs…”
That move? It’s already turned into $20K+ in deals, with speaking offers still landing in my inbox.
Let’s break it down…
✍️ Steal This Playbook
When brands do big conferences like Cannes, they’re not just throwing money around for fun. They want visibility, reach, and ROI.
Translation? They need content—and lots of it.
Since I was already going and didn’t need them to cover flights or hotels, I became the easiest “yes” on their list.
I wasn’t asking for a favor. I was showing up as a partner with value.
The Big 3 … Lessons of course.
1. Content = Currency
The skill of knowing how to make content that tells a story and drives impact? That will always be in demand. Want to learn more? Read this
2. Position Before You Pitch
Whether it’s showing up IRL or showing up online, brands respond to people already in motion. You don’t need permission to be in the room, just make it clear that you’re already in it.
3. Make It Stupid Simple to Say Yes
Here’s the kicker: my email wasn’t long or fancy. It was clear, direct, and value-first. I even dropped the template below so you can copy/paste it for your next big swing
📩 Try the email template and let me know how it goes. And if you’ll be at Cannes Lions too? Say hi. I’ll be the one turning an “L” into leverage.
🛠️ The Ultimate Toolkit for Creatorpreneurs
We’re six months into the year (wild, I know), and I’ve been deep in the trenches testing tools, refining my process, and swapping notes with other builders doing serious volume.
If you’re looking to sharpen your content game and run your brand like a business, these tools are must-haves:
Notion – The backbone of my biz. I run everything—from content calendars to client tracking—through this one app.
Wave – My go-to for invoicing. Clean UX, and the auto-reminder feature makes sure you get paid on time.
Typeform – Branded surveys that don’t feel boring. Perfect for collecting audience insights or running lead forms.
Blackmagic Camera – Turns your iPhone into a DSLR. Built-in LUTs, presets, and buttery visuals = content glow-up.
Grammarly – Your grammar police, but friendlier. Real-time edits that save you from typos and awkward phrasing.
Canva – Simple design that slaps. New AI features have seriously leveled it up lately.
Manychats – My secret weapon for Instagram DMs. Comment-to-DM automation that actually grows your list.
Fiverr – Outsource the small stuff. For the quick tasks you don’t want to touch, this saves your time and sanity.
Beehiiv – This newsletter runs on Beehiiv. Super flexible, built for growth, and packed with features that actually matter.
And this is just scratching the surface…
I’m currently building a full dashboard of the 30+ tools I use across content creation, monetization, branding, automation…you name it. These tools have made my workflow 10x easier and my business way more scalable.
As always, this newsletter gets first dibs. So stay tuned—more updates (and access) dropping soon.
