“A personal brand is necessary. A body of work is mandatory.”
👋 Welcome back to Content to Commas, your weekly playbook for turning content into authority and income.
I get asked often … “how do I build a personal brand" … this time, I was super honest and mentioned you have to have work behind your brand powering the whole thing.
let me cook…
The personal brand hype going around right now sounds like the visibility Olympics.
I truly think you shouldn't focus only on building your personal brand and forget to improve your skills and craft, because your brand needs a strong foundation.
This issue is about changing how we think about personal branding and helping you establish the basics of your work first.
📌 In this issue:
The difference between visibility and proof
How to talk about your work (produce, package, place)
The work behind the work
Let's lock in.

📑 Your Body of Work SHOULD be the loudest
Social feeds treat content like milk.
fresh today … old in a week.
But the goal is to have a business that survives when you're silent on Instagram for a month.
My mind thinks in frameworks, so here's the simplest way I can explain it.
Produce once. Package forever. Place everywhere it counts.
👆 this is your cheat code. remember it.
Produce: make the work, not the noise
Your work comes first. Not the IG rebrand, not the new bio, not a personality you put on for the camera. The work.
If you’re a photographer, your evidence is the shoot.
If you edit video, it's the cut that took a client from 200 views to 200K.
If you run social for a brand, it's the post that outperformed everything else that month.
Evidence doesn't have to look like a corporate case study or a slide deck. It's anything that makes someone say "oh, they can really do this."
I don't mean to sound like Kim K., but you need to get up and do the work.
Package: the making is the product
BTS content is no longer bonus content. It often IS the content.
If you're a photographer, the final image is proof, but you propping your phone up and filming yourself getting the shot is the package that performs.
Something findable, linkable, saveable, or permanent.
( 👆 maybe that can be playing in your head throughout this week?)
A portfolio page, a recap of every campaign or client project you've done, a breakdown, a "start here" link.
and you don't have to share the work the minute it's done.
That shoot from March you never posted is still an asset. Package it.
exhibit A 👇
Place: put the proof where people already look
You made it. You packaged it. Now stop hiding it.
Nobody is scrolling back eight months on your grid to find your best work.
Put it at the front, pin it, add it to your LinkedIn featured section, your link in bio, your email signature.
Then post a quarterly recap: one post that rounds up everything you made in the last 90 days.
It feels like bragging until you realize it's just filing, in public.
final words…
If you perfect your craft and promote the proof, work will always find you.
